Vertical 9:16 comes first
TikTok is a full-screen feed. A 16:9 video fills about a third of the height and the rest is padded — allowed, but it reads as borrowed from somewhere else and the thumb keeps moving.
| Parameter | Working reference |
|---|---|
| Ratio | 9:16, full screen, no bars |
| Resolution | 1080×1920 |
| Container | MP4 or MOV; MP4 behaves more predictably |
| Length for a test | 9–34 seconds |
| Audio | Required — the feed plays with sound |
If your master is horizontal, Uniqueizer Pro cuts 9:16 by real cropping, not by adding bars. That works when the face, the product and the key text sit inside the centre square of the frame, so check the crop on a frame with a face before downloading. Keep roughly the bottom 20% and the right-hand strip free of important text — the interface covers them.
TikTok changes limits from time to time and they differ by market; TikTok's own ads help pages are the reference.
Test the first three seconds with a hook pack
The hook is the cheapest part of a video to change and the part that decides the most. The hook pack builds five different openings from the first three seconds of your video while the body stays the same — which is exactly what a hook test needs.
- judge hooks by 3-second retention, not by CTR — clicks also depend on the offer;
- launch at least three or four hooks; two is a coin toss;
- trim the start if the original warms up slowly — a logo or a slow push-in loses most viewers before the offer;
- add your own cover at the start with the intro option when you want a deliberate first frame;
- wait until retention stops jumping day to day before you pick a winner.
A reshoot is needed only when the idea of the hook changes, not its delivery.
Fatigue comes fast on TikTok
A creative burning out in a couple of days is normal on TikTok. Waiting for the numbers to drop and only then assembling a replacement costs you the days in between. Prepare a batch of variants of the winning hook in advance and rotate on a schedule.
Keep the changes modest. TikTok viewers are sensitive to ads that feel foreign to the feed, and heavy grain or colour shifts push a clip toward a processed look. Low or Medium is usually enough. Watch each variant on a phone: if you notice the processing before the offer, the level is too high.
Sound stays in sync when speed changes
The feed plays with sound, and a silent or drifting track reads as a fault. When a variant changes speed, Uniqueizer Pro keeps the audio in sync with the picture, so a slightly faster opening still sounds right. A pace change of 10–15% is visible only slightly and keeps the clip from feeling rushed.
Before upload, listen to every variant once: the track is there, it is not silent, and it lines up with the lips and the cuts.
A workflow for one TikTok batch
- Start from the master that already worked on a small budget;
- Choose the TikTok preset, 9:16 and a level — Low or Medium for a native look;
- Turn on the hook pack for five openings;
- Set a filename template such as
geo_offer_hook_v1so each hook reads in the report; - Use 480p for quick test runs and 720p for the versions you scale — it is sharper but takes longer;
- Check the before/after preview and the audio, then download the ZIP;
- Run the hooks over the same body, read 3-second retention, then multiply the winner into rotation variants.
What processing does not change
Most TikTok rejections come from claims on screen, in the copy or on the landing page, not from the file, and processing touches none of that. The tool prepares clean test variants, formats and rotation; the content of every variant must follow TikTok's advertising policies, and approval is never guaranteed.

Questions
How many hooks should one test have?
Three or four at minimum. The hook pack produces five openings; launch the ones that differ most clearly and keep the body of the video identical.
Can I use a horizontal video on TikTok?
It is accepted, but it fills about a third of the screen. Cutting 9:16 from the master works well when the important part sits in the centre square of the frame.
Does changing speed break the audio?
No. When a variant changes speed, the audio is kept in sync with the picture. Still listen to each variant once before upload.
Does processing help with TikTok ad review?
No. It changes the file, not the content, and review looks at the content, the claims and the landing page. If something was flagged, fix the cause rather than the file.
